Fossil Knob Ridge Bunkhouse Tour

bunk house highlights

Accommodates Three

The bunk house features a twin-over-full luxury (yes, you read that right) bunk bed with memory foam mattresses to ensure you enjoy great sleep on your vacation.  The bunk house also boasts a full bathroom with a shower.

Well-appointed kitchenette

The bunk house comes a small fridge with freezer, coffee maker, sink, hot plate, microwave, blender (because margaritas!), toaster, pots and pans, and a crock pot.  Grill your steaks on the gas grill while you watch the sunset.

Cliffside sunset views

Enjoy spectacular Big Bend sunsets from the porch while the chiminea softly hums.  The porch on the bunk house is large and inviting, and the topography makes for a dramatic cliff-top view.

Even shipping containers have amenities!

Have a movie night on our Netflix/Roku flat-screen.  Play cards or a board game.  Our linens are luscious!  Enjoy our blazing-fast WiFi (or don't!).  We know you'll enjoy spending time in our tiny-home inspired vacation spot.

Enjoy twenty fossil-strewn acres

Big Bend is a geologists delight!  While easily accessible by car, Fossil Knob Ridge sits on some rugged and vast terrain.  The owner laughs that the only flat spot on the property is under the building.  Spend a morning fossil hunting down the hillside.

Explore Big Bend

Although some lucky guests stay a week or more at a time, most of our guests book a three-day stay.  We typically recommend one day exploring the world-renowned national and state parks, one day to relax on the property, and a "wild card" day of unplanned fun.

Fossil Knob Ridge Bunk House - Detailed Description

Fossil Knob Ridge Bunk House is an ultra-modern home built from a single twenty-foot recycled shipping container. In keeping with the popular “Tiny Home” movement, the Bunk House has an extremely efficient and space saving design while preserving a surprisingly spacious feel. It includes a sleeping area with a twin over full bunk bed, a living and dining area, kitchenette, and full bathroom. The shaded patio offers additional living space for your comfort and enjoyment. Modern design, styling, and art are featured inside and out. Please view the photos for the best description.

The bunk house sleeps up to three guests. The sleeping area has a bunk bed with a twin on the top and a full on the bottom. If you have a larger group, or simply want more space, we recommend also booking the Main House. It is built from two shipping containers, one forty-foot and one twenty-foot. It is close by but faces away from the Bunk House. Both rentals have privacy and their own unique views. The Main House sleeps four. Check out the Main House page for more info on that home. You are welcome to rent either home or both. If you rent both, we will apply a 10% discount to the nightly lodging rate on both units.

Both of the Fossil Knob Ridge Rentals are on the electric grid for reliable and ample electric power. Both are fully air-conditioned and heated and have modern electric appliances. Potable water is trucked in and stored in holding tanks for your use. There is plenty of water available but trucking it in is expensive. We ask that you conserve it, but not so much as to compromise your comfort.

Located just one mile northwest of the world famous Terlingua Ghost Town and twenty miles northwest of the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park. Fossil Knob Ridge overlooks the Ghost Town and has breathtaking mountain views, including the Chisos Mountains and into Mexico.

Relax inside the Bunk House or on the shaded patio. Explore the fossil strewn 20-acre property. Drive or walk into the Ghost Town to explore the historic ruins, dine, drink, enjoy live music, or hang out with local and travelers from around the globe. If you play an instrument or sing, join in on an impromptu jam, session on the porch of the old trading post. Drive into Big Bend Nation Park or Big Bend Ranch State park for endless outdoor adventures. Book a river trip, jeep tour, horseback ride, mountain bike rental, guided hike, or guided hunt. Enjoy a controlled campfire. Marvel at the night skies. Watch the stunning sunrises and sunsets. Do as much or as little as you like. Then, come back again and do even more or less.
