Chisos House is an ultra-modern home built from two recycled shipping containers, one forty feet long and one twenty feet long. They are joined together at a 90° angle around a large, shaded patio. The forty contains the living room, dining area, and kitchen. The twenty contains the bathroom and bedroom. Modern design, styling, and art are featured inside and out. Please view the photos for the best description.
Chisos House sleeps two guests plus there is a couch. The bedroom has a king-sized bed and the living room has a small futon-style sleeper sofa. A full-service indoor shower is built out of native stone from the property itself. This rental has a full kitchen, the largest on property. Your private porch has incredible views of the Terlingua Ghost Town, a mile away, and the Chisos Mountains in the National Park. The glass-wall construction has full blinds built in throughout, but we're confident you'll never use them because you'll want to soak up as much of the epic view as you can.
This rental features a large porch with outdoor dining area, an outdoor shaded lounge, and a firepit with campfire seating. Formerly known as the "main house," Chisos House was the first rental that we built - the one that started it all and showed us that our guests absolutely love what we're doing here!
We offer group discounts if you need to rent more than one cabin for larger parties.
Fossil Knob Ridge is on the electric grid for reliable and ample electric power. All units are fully air-conditioned and heated and have modern electric appliances. Potable water is trucked in and stored in holding tanks for your use. There is plenty of water available but trucking it in is expensive. We ask that you conserve it, but not so much as to compromise your comfort.
Located just one mile northwest of the world famous Terlingua Ghost Town and twenty miles northwest of the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park. Fossil Knob Ridge overlooks the Ghost Town and has breathtaking mountain views, including the Chisos Mountains and into Mexico.
Chisos House is named after the Chisos Mine in Terlingua, which operated from 1903 to 1946. The Chisos Mine produced cinnabar, the ore used to make mercury, until demand faded after the end of World War Two, rendering Terlingua a real-live ghost town.

Buena Suerte is a mining area located in what is now Big Bend Ranch State Park. Mining began in 1940 and continued until 1973, much later than most other mines in the area. This well-preserved ghost town can be visited by hike, bike, or through a Jeep tour from our friends at Far Flung Outdoor Center.
